If your charity is a trust, an unincorporated association, or a Charity Commission scheme, it is classed as an unincorporated charity. In this structure, trustees do not benefit from limited liability if things go wrong.

However, incorporation can change this. It can provide trustees with greater protection and bring wider benefits for the charity. This is especially important where charities own or lease property. Property ownership can create additional complexity and potential liability.

In this joint seminar, Russell-Cooke solicitors Catherine Flexer, Senior Associate, and Sukanya Ransford, Legal Director, will join David Sayce, Associate Property Adviser at the Ethical Property Foundation. Together, they will explain the incorporation process and why it matters.

They will cover the benefits of incorporation, particularly for charities with property. In addition, they will explain the differences between a charitable company and a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO). They will also look at the incorporation process itself. Finally, they will explore how to transfer property assets.
