9.1.2. Understanding property risks

Property risks fall into broad categories

  • Financial
  • risks which could cost you money
  • Legal
  • risks which could adversely affect your organisation and / or its ability to occupy its property
  • Operational
  • risks to the organisation and / or its staff, clients and visitors
  • Reputational
  • risks to the reputation of the organisation and its ability to deliver its services

Broadly, a risk is the likelihood of unexpected / hazardous events threatening or adversely affecting a desired outcome.

Some risks can fall into more than one category.

For example, a legal risk can also be a financial risk if the legal issue results in you being financially worse off.
